Edging Tips for Squares

If you are doing a friendship 'ghan (or a comfort 'ghan) with squares from different folks, lay them all out, find the largest one and measure it. Count the number of stitches on each side to get an idea, then settle on the number of final stitches in your edge.

You can easily add stitches to each side by working 2 st. in another stitch, but it is harder to remove stitches without causing the square to curl. I usually use the highest number I find ... or I cut that number by 2 stitches. It's a personal preference and will depend on how tightly you crochet.

Then edge it with a sc edging all the way around working 3 sc in the corner. Continue with all your squares, adding one or two rows of sc to get the correct number of stitches and to bring your square up to the proper size. Some square may require a row of hdc or dc to get the size you need. Now you are ready to join!
