Tips from friends
From Hooter:
- You can't give me credit cause I read this somewhere....but when I make anything with rounds .... like doilies (and now am using it on hats) ......instead of joining and then chaining 3 etc .. I slip stitch in the next couple of stitches and then start the work if the pattern allows .. that way you dont have an obvious place that you started every round.
- Also when ss then ch 3 ... try ch 2 instead for that first dc .. it makes a tighter "Join stitch" if ya know what I mean.
From sissie:
- don't be afraid to mix yarn types. i have a beautiful comfortghan that is done all in cotton yarn except for one lady who did hers in acrylic. those are mixed in with the cotton. it is beautiful!!!!!!!!! i love it mixed.
- oooh i love doing squares, all different patterns and colors. i think when you join them you need some plain granny type as well as the fancier ones to make a pretty ghan.
- don't be afraid to join with a color other than cream or white. i am joining squares now for a project and doing it [the joining] in a soft lilac. it is beautiful. just like i did dawns...i never would have thought black but it turned out lovely like stained glass and really showed the colors off well.
- another thing i did was attach a small square of an index card to each square. i would lay the squares out, arrange, rearrange till i got the pattern and colors like i wanted them to be. then i would number the squares in order. that way if i had to pick up the squares or move then all that time i spent on arranging them wasn't wasted and it was easy to get them back in the right order.
