General Tips
- Squares that are worked in rounds are not turned unless the pattern indicates that you should turn.
- Your first round is usually worked into the circle formed when you join the beginning chain.
- Check your gauge to make sure you are on track. You may need to adjust your hook size up or down.
- Your gauge may change depending on the brand of yarn, and also by the color of the yarn. Blue's hold more dye and are fatter.
- Normally, 1/4 inch difference in size of your finished square isn't worth fretting over. But if you are in an exchange, you should double check with your exchange leader to find out how strict they are on size differences.
- When you make your slip stitch on your hook to begin, leave a 5-6 inch tail to be woven in when you are finished. Do the same when you fasten off.
- To weave in ends, fold yarn over the "eye" of a size 16 tapestry needle, pull needle out of fold and slide the fold through the eye. Being careful to not have your stitches show through the front, carefully weave the end through the back side of the stitches, working a few inches one direction and few inches the other direction until you are at the end of the tail. Then snip it off.
