Capt. Cook's Trail Photos
<< Prev Next >> IndexAnother borrowed map ... it'll be our secret. ;-)
Taken on Feb. 5th. It started out sunny so we bought sandwiches and planned on hiking and having lunch.
When we reached Cooks Chasm the sun was gone, the temp had dropped, so we sat on a bench and ate our
sandwiches. Good thing they were cold deli. HAH! By the time we had finished lunch, the fog was so thick you
could only see 100 ft. or so. I'm wondering if we're nuts.
This next set were all taken on Feb. 19 down in Yachats. They really speak for themselves.

Feb. 19 down in Yachats - looking southward.
These are Mac's pals down in Yachats. They hang around the park and wait for anyone to feed them. When we
drive up, they waddle over to the car. They have us pegged. They land on the car hood and sit and stare at us.
Just think of The Bird's from Hitchcock. HA!
The balance of the photos are from our hike on Feb. 21st. A blend of my pics and Mac's. His are sharper - his
camera is fancier. This is the start of the hike - looking back up toward the car.

Looking ahead to our hike. You'll notice how close the path is to the ocean. You have to keep your eyes on the
ocean here as it's always susceptible to sneaker waves.

Love the foam!

The little bridge. Okay - Mac took this. I hate heights. I don't know why I climb around on these places. There is
a fairly steep drop off to the left of the path. The path slants toward the drop off. The last 3 feet are almost a
vertical climb. The bridge is just a joy - at least it's solid. I have to hang onto Mac to walk down the area.
The first spouting horn. When all the conditions are right, the spray floats up and coats your face with salt.
Spectactular!
Thar' she blows!
It doesn't show in the picture, but the ocean blew some clams up in this spout. I watched them fly up, around
and crash down on the rocks.
Looking south towards the next spouting horn ... fantastic when they both blow together.
Neither of us know what the rusty item is.
Like glaze on a cake.
Rolling in ....
Spouting - and yes our faces were salty.
The ledge we were standing on was maybe 100 ft. above the spout.
By now we were cold and it was starting to rain.
Last shot before we headed up the path.
At the top of the path, looking straight down into the spouting horn. Got my camera wet doing this. By the time
we reached the car we were both soaked! It was worth it.
